Finding home anywhere
Hi! The past two months have been full of travel and hopping from house to house.
Realized a few cool things
Nomadic existence is good for my creativity
But the lack of structure can seriously mess with productivity
Obvious, isn't it? But it hit me so differently after being stuck indoors for more than a year.
Thanks to the pandemic, I have a newfound respect for slow travel and the wonders that change of environment can do to my mental peace.
Got to make this nomadic lifestyle work for me without turning my life upside down 💁♀️
Mindset shift
After staying at home for more than a year, a change in the environment seemed like a holiday. The holiday mindset gives us the leeway to slow things down and abandon work for a while. Well, this isn't a holiday. I first needed to tell myself that this was just a regular working day.
Home is where routine is
The princess that I am, I default to demanding ideal conditions to do any task. The new place handed me ready-made excuses to put my life on hold. And my response to that is to have a simple yet effective ritual/routine.
Routine is our ticket to finding quiet in an unfamiliar place. And it’s essential to keep the routine location agnostic and so simple that it knocks all excuses out the window.
For instance, every morning, I wake up, do yoga for 20 minutes, grab some hot water, and get to work. When I do this, I get a small win in the day. I'm not all over the place wondering where to begin.
The familiarity of the routine makes up for the uncertainty of a new place.
My precious realizations from following this through
I love that I've stopped depending on my environment as much for my mental peace. As long as I can find space and time for my routine, I can be on track. Writing is one such calming ritual. It's one of the most potent reflective exercises. I probably need it more when things around me are constantly changing.
Moreover, new places also inspire me with new ideas, which means I got to share them with you.
